The Process
We make it easy to evaluate the standing timber on your property, learn its value and complete a harvest of mature trees. The first step is to call our timber buyer Brian at 260-624-5853 or complete the form on this site and set up an appointment for him to walk your woods. Brian will work with you to determine how many trees your would like to harvest and give you an estimate of their value. For bigger jobs or when there are high value trees involved, this may take a couple of visits.
After you and the timber buyer settle on the number of trees and agree on a price, a contract will be drawn up and a deposit made. Our contracts run for one year to allow us to work around planted crops, wet conditions, snow, etc. Before cutting, the trees to be cut will be marked so the landowner is assured that only the agreed upon trees will be cut. Lawson's Logging pays each landowner in full before cutting the first tree and is fully licensed, bonded and insured.
Lawson's Logging takes every precaution to minimize damage to the woods and any access points. Our goal is complete customer satisfaction and we work hard to "get it right" and leave behind a healthy woods with additional light and small limbs to feed the next generation of trees. What We're Looking For
- Walnut The most desirable timber, good veneer logs are straight, have no knots and a thick, chocolaty bark. Used to produce furniture. Lesser logs are cut for lumber.
- Burr Oak Used for posts and beams.
- White Oak, Red Oak
- Ash The ash borer has made this species harder to find in northern Ohio, Indiana and Michigan so prices have gone up. Valued for making baseball bats, handles, etc.
- Cottonwood Considered by some as "junk timber" cottonwood trees are used by palette makers. We will only cut cottonwood trees in conjunction with other, higher quality timber.
These are just a few of the species we commonly buy. Our timber buyer can make a full assessment of your property to see what you have that's ready for harvest and how many trees you would prefer to cut.
